Share Your Pearls of Wisdom with the Vocalpoint

We’ve all had people who’ve inspired us with their life experiences or advice. Honor them by sharing their story and their wisdom with the Vocalpoint community.

Hi Vocalpoint moms! This is Kim. While we’re looking forward to hearing the wisdom you have to share with us, I wanted to let you know that we have some wisdom to share with you as well. This message board was inspired by a book our friend, Roger Fishman, wrote called ‘What I Know.’

Even though my Uncle Jim has Cerebral Palsy and has (successfully) battled lung cancer, he has led a very rich and full life.  He has a master’s degree, recently retired from 30+ years working for the state of Georgia, and has traveled all over the world.  All of this from a person whose parents were urged to put him in an institution for his entire life.  When I asked him how he overcame all of his obstacles, he simply said “I just never listened to people who said ‘you can’t do this or you shouldn’t try that.’  If I did, I’d never even leave the house.”

My mom always had this saying ‘go slow to go fast.’  Being an impatient little girl, I never took the time to figure out what she meant by that.  In a way, my impatience was an asset – I graduated early from college and never settled for a job until I got what I wanted.  On the other hand, it seemed like I was always doing things twice – first quickly to get it done, then more carefully a second time to correct all of my mistakes.  Finally it clicked, if I slowed down and did things right the first time, I wouldn’t have to take the time to do it all over again.  ‘Go slow to go fast’ – words that I live by.

My mother always had two sayings of advice...."count your blessings" and "this too shall pass".  It sure helps me to remember those words throughout my life.

one of my words of wisdom comes from my favorite book the Bible. i can do all things in christ who strengthens me. he gives us strength each day to deal with circumsatnces and situations that come in our daily lives. we must keep him first in our lives.and if and when we ask God for wisdom"Godly wisdom " believeing he will give it  to us.

God shows grace and mercy to those he loves and hes the reason im still alive today. i consider myself a living testimony.i give God all the praise because we can do nothing without him.and to know your uncle had the mentality to fight and not give up is awesome what a testimony he has.God is GOOD!

I believe in keeping things simple and giving to those in need. We all have something we can give if it is just time. It is a shame that people have so much and give so little. You can look no farther than your own street to see someone in need. Clean out your closets and give to a charity. Take food to an elderly shut in. Give food to those who do not have the income to eat right. Pass on clothes that are still in good condition to families with alot of children and not alot of money. Feed a stray animal if you cannot find a home for it. It is in our hands. Sandra from Texas
