Let's face it, sometimes you have to be a little nosey in the best interest and well–being of your family. What we want to know is how being nosey has paid off for you in the past. Try the cinnamon hand washing exercise; have the kids rub vegetable oil on their hands like lotion, then have them hold their hands over a sink and sprinkle cinnamon "germs" on them and have them wash their hands as usual. The kids are usually shocked at how many "germs" remain after washing their hands. This encourages thorough hand washing.

When having a pointy item in their hands (pencils, forks or knives because they are helping set the table, etc.), they know that the pointy part goes "down". This way, it they stumbled, they do not get injured!

When I was growing up the basic friends-over rule was: "No friends in bedrooms ever" but basically meant that friends were only to be entertained in the social centers of the home; kitchen, livingroom, porch. I've changed that slightly for my daughter, she has 1 friend who plays in her room, but the door must remain open & she knows I will walk in any time I want to. As for the phone... right now she uses it on 'speaker' with the door open if she goes into her room. Often she just leaves it on speaker around us too. As long as she doesn't hide anything, I let her talk/entertain freely. If we disapprove of anything, we have a casual talk later about why.
