I've been using jars like this to keep the lint from my dryer. I can keep the lint there and empty it when it's full. It keep my basement floor lint free.

I use the jars and put homemade trail mix or something of the sort to give to friends. Just tie ribbon around the top or raffia and it's good to give.

I've used the jars to educate my child. We made little Terrariums out of them. After filling third of each jar with potting soil, we placed seeds in the soil, watered it with 1/8 cup of water, sealed with lid, and placed on a sunny morning window sill. We got to watch as an atmosphere developed within the sealed jar. Soon it was fogging, and then raining within the jar. The water was re-absorbed by the soil and soon we saw the seed develope into a seedling, and then a plant. After that, we removed the lid, and the plant would grow tall within the jar as the jar prevented it from bushing out. Great horticalture lesson and an experience shared by us both. Also made a nice science entry at the school science fair.
